Zodiac Olympos Field - A Unique Everyday Watch With A Twist
Zodiac Olympos Field is a welcomed addition to the existing Olympos collection produced by the Swiss company Zodiac. The collection is mainly characterized by the futuristic shape of the case, the so-called 'manta ray' case that looks almost unlike any watch on the market. Despite the shape, it still feels like a fairly classic watch on the wrist, which we think is positive. It doesn´t stick out as much as you may think, although it's unique.
History
The first Olympos model was created in 1961 and this model is inspired by models that were produced for the British Royal Navy in the 60s. It is, to say the least, a unique model Zodiac created, you can say it's a classic model but with a twist.
Collection
All Zodiac's models are of high quality and are at the same time affordable when compared to similar models from Swiss watch companies, and the Olympos collection and the Field models are a little more affordable compared to the other collections although it doesn´t come with the diving functions from the rest of the Zodiac collections. The Zodiac Olympos Field is a more classic watch in appearance and works as a perfect and durable everyday watch.
Specifications
Although the Olympus Field is not a diver's watch, the model has been equipped with a full 200 meters of water resistance, which is almost impossible to find in a similar everyday watch on the market. The Omega Seamaster Aquaterra is one we can think of that comes with 150 meters of water resistance. The Seiko Alpinist is another one with the models SPB155, 157, and 159 that we think resembles this model the most, both in appearance, price, and its water resistance of 200 meters.
Design
The Zodiac Olympos Field has a diameter of 40mm which is fully brushed, except on the edges which are polished with a high finish that continues out to the pin buckle which also has polished edges. The dial has a gorgeous gray or green dial, dependent on which of the two models you look at, and both models have index markings and hands that are filled with Super Luminova. Even the crown is nicely polished where a large Zodiac logo can be found, a logo that is also shown on the case back.
Movement
The movement used is the STP 1-11 which is an automatic movement with a 44-hour power reserve.
We think the Zodiac Olympos Field is a unique and perhaps even timeless watch that fits perfectly on the wrist and looks and feels more like a 38 or 39-mm model than a classic 40-mm everyday watch.
