Unimatic Quattro Ore Review
Unimatic Quattro Ore is the name of three very special watches that the Italian watch brand Unimatic released in 2023 together with the Scandinavian architect firm Claesson Koivisto Rune. An architect trio that also designed the flagship store for Unimatic in Milano and where the watches were a celebration for the flagship opening. We had an interesting opportunity to take a look at these watches that are all sold out now.
The watches came in three different materials; steel, bronze, and gold, and here is our review of them.
Design
So all three watches have the case design of the Unimatic Modello Quattro watches with a 40 mm case and an oversized crown. They all have 300 meters of water resistance and have a circular brushed dial where we find the hour and minute hands which are of the same color as the case and they are skeletonized. The second hand is red, the same color as the strap. They all have a discreet Unimatic logo on the dial and a small red text with ‘Made In Italy’. The steel variant has a steel case back, which the bronze watch also has, but the gold variant has a gold case back.
If we start with the steel Unimatic Quattro Ore, it´s the one of the bunch that is most discreet although its brushed case gives it an industrial and minimalistic feel that´s unique.
The bronze variant has oxidized a bit so the color of the case has changed from its new state and will change in the future. We like how this right now looks and with any bronze watch, this will be unique in how it looks.
Lastly the gold watch, with a case of yellow gold which feels like a chunk of gold in your hands. It´s a nice watch and the one of these three that will stand out the most. It reminds us a bit of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Olyx model in gold but honestly, this looks a lot better and has a more refined look.
They are all very minimalistic with no date window, and the watches have been stript away to all but the essentials. The design of the Unimatic Quattro Ore watches is a unique and special clash of Scandinavian and Italian design elements that fit together perfectly.
Design Score: 15 of 20
Movement
The movement inside these Unimatic watches is the Sellita SW200-1 which has 38 hours of power reserve. It has a bit better accuracy than the standard movement from this batch of Sellita movement but it´s still a standard movement which in all honesty fits this minimalistic design quite well. It will also be easy to service because it´s a common caliber used in the watch market. Because of the lower power reserve, we can´t give it a high score.
Movement Score: 8 of 20
Wearability
The size of the case which is around 40 mm is a good size fit for many wrists, and the feel of it will be different depending on the material. The gold watch stands out the most, the bronze one will sit in the middle and the steel variant is the most low-key.
It´s worth saying that the Unimatic Quattro Ore is not a watch for everyone, but for the right person, it can be your only watch, especially the steel model.
Wearability Score: 14 of 20
Price And Value
It´s hard to tell the price right now because it´s already sold out but to go by the original price or what we think it may be on the pre-owned market, the gold one is surely over 12,000 dollars and the other two we think may be over 2000 dollars.
It´s worth saying that the gold is a limited watch to 10 pieces, the bronze to 50 pieces, and the steel to 99 pieces so they are all three very limited watches. As a total package, we still think they have a quite high value over time.
Price And Value Score: 14 of 20
X-Factor
The first impression of the Unimatic Quattro Ore design can be overwhelming for some, in the sense that it is so different. That feeling for us, was soon replaced with an understanding of the watch, the design, and the minimalistic thought behind it, and why it is so different.
We can´t expect a traditional Swiss watch design, because this is not that kind of watch. We think this is one of the most charming watches we have seen in a long time, and of course one of the most minimalistic if not the most minimalistic.
X-Factor Score: 16 of 20
Summary And Results
So the total score; is 67. It´s the highest score we have had for a watch or watch collection. It makes sense because it’s three watches with a unique design and we can see it has value for a long time, but at the same time, a watch that for the right person can be an everyday watch, or your only watch.
