Zodiac Super Sea Wolf – A Diving Watch With A Unique Past
A Cultbrand
Something that has always been important to the company Zodiac is to be true to its historical models and its design. Trends come and go but innovative design is timeless, as is the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf. The Zodiac company has a history of creating many different types of watches but they have almost become synonymous with the diving watch category.
Zodiac are experts in combining their classic design of diving watches with modern technology where precision, design, and craftsmanship are the watchwords. Not infrequently it is combined with an innovative, and sometimes rebellious twist in the design. Like Rolex, Zodiac's various models exist for a certain period. Models can disappear from the range for a time and come back with a different color on the dial for a year or disappear completely from the range. It is a successful recipe where desirable models do not become too common on the market.
Zodiac Super Sea Wolf 53 Compression Diver
Since 1882, Zodiac has tried to create something unique in the watch market. Founder Ariste Calame, who was the son of a watchmaker, was obsessed with creating the world's most precise watch. He managed to create his first watch already in the first year. Zodiac is a company that introduced one of the first automatic watches to the market and then created several innovative mechanical solutions after another.
In 1953, the legendary company Blancpain created the world's first diving watch. In the same year, the Zodiac Sea Wolf diving watch was created, which was a year before Rolex came out with their equivalent; Rolex Submariner. It was quite an achievement for Zodiac to be among the first three companies to come out with a commercial diving watch. Something Zodiac, however, was the first to do, was to create the first diver's watch with a rotating diving ring, something that is now standard on all diver's watches. During the latter part of the 1950s, the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf came, which had a more durable case than previous models and patented new functions as well as a full 750 meters of water resistance.
The Collection Zodiac Super Sea Wolf
Zodiac Super Sea Wolf is a wide collection with many models. We have chosen here to highlight two of our favorite models a little extra; Super Sea Wolf 53 Skin Diver and Super Sea Wolf 53 Compression Diver. Both models, with their respective designs, have changed minimally over the years, where they are true to their original design.
Many of the models come with a steel link but are often also offered with high-quality rubber straps. All Zodiac models are fully constructed by hand on-site in Biel-Bienne, Switzerland.
Zodiac Super Sea Wolf 53 Skin Diver
The Super Sea Wolf 53 Skin Diver has a size of 39 mm and is water resistant to 200 meters. Like the Omega Seamaster or the Rolex Submariner, the Super Sea Wolf 53 Skin Diver is one of Zodiac's most iconic designs.
The bezel is brushed and has a design that is unique to Zodiak but which over the years has also inspired other watch brands in their diver's watches. The movement is caliber STP3-13 which has a power reserve of 44 hours, a clock frequency of 4 hz, and 26 jewels. STP stands for Swiss Technology Production, which is a company owned by the same company that owns Zodiac.
Zodiac Super Sea Wolf 53 Compression
The Zodiac Super Sea Wolf 53 Compression Diver has a size of 40mm which is a perfect size for a diver's watch. The model has the same movement, caliber STP3-13 with 44 hours of power reserve, as the Super Sea Wolf 53 Skin Diver. However, the diving bezel is made of ceramic, which makes it, among other things, resistant to scratches to a higher degree. On the dial, we also find a date window and details of orange, which is one of Zodiac's hallmarks.
The Jubilee link, which is also a legacy of Zodiac's history, is extremely comfortable on the wrist.
